Divide evenly in one step

An even split divides each daily macro by the number of meals. With 140 grams of protein across four meals, each result is 35 grams.

Match the split to your day

Edit the percentages when your meals are not the same size. The results update immediately. Keep the full set at 100% so every gram in the daily target is allocated.

The meal macro guide shows an even example, an uneven example, and the evidence limits around protein timing.

Already partway through the day? Use the calories and macros remaining calculator to subtract completed meal entries instead of planning the full day again.

Estimated calories come from the macros

The tool uses 4 calories per gram of protein, 4 per gram of carbohydrate, and 9 per gram of fat. These are general energy factors. Nutrition labels can differ because of rounding and how particular carbohydrates are counted.

An even split is a starting point, not a rule

Dividing a daily target evenly across meals is a convenient default, and nothing requires you to follow it. Appetite is not evenly distributed through the day, and a plan that fights that is harder to keep than one that does not.

What matters far more than the split is the daily total and whether the pattern is one you can repeat. A larger dinner and a smaller breakfast is not a worse day than the reverse if both land in the same place.

Protein is the one worth spreading out

Of the three, protein is the macro where distribution gets discussed most, partly because it is the one people most often under-eat, and partly because concentrating it in a single evening meal makes the daily total harder to reach.

The practical version is simpler than the theory: if you are consistently short, adding protein to the meals that currently have least is easier than enlarging the one that already has most. The protein gap calculator shows what is missing, and the splitting macros guide covers the reasoning.

Carbohydrate and fat placement is largely a matter of preference, training timing and what keeps you comfortable. Treat any confident rule about their timing with suspicion.

Use a target you already trust

This calculator does not estimate energy needs, set a protein goal, or prescribe meal timing. For a broad educational protein range, use the protein range calculator. If you have a medical condition, are pregnant, or follow a clinician-provided plan, use their targets and timing advice.
